HOLLADAY PROPERTIES UNVEILS PLAN TO REVITALIZE DONELSON PLAZA

With Donelson’s new Nashville Public Library branch as its centerpiece, 1960s era shopping center to be transformed into modern urban town center, extending its life for decades to come

November 27, 2018 – (Nashville, TN) – Holladay Properties, a full-scale land development, design/build, and fully-integrated real estate company, has unveiled its redevelopment plans for Donelson Plaza, located at 2710 & 2720 Old Lebanon Road.

The nearly 200,000 square-foot shopping center first opened in 1961 and sits on approximately 11 acres of land. It was purchased by Holladay Properties in 2016. Since acquisition the company has worked closely with multiple Metro Nashville departments, including the Public Library, General Services, Planning and Public Works, to make the new Donelson branch of the Nashville Public Library the centerpiece of Donelson Plaza, serving as a catalyst for Holladay’s comprehensive vision for the site.

With the library’s funding now approved by the Metro Council under the leadership of District 15 Councilman Jeff Syracuse, Holladay is sharing its vision for a revitalized Donelson Plaza.

“We plan to transform Donelson Plaza into a walkable town center, and in doing so, to rekindle the historic center that’s long been a hub of the Donelson community,” said Benton Smothers, Vice President of Development for Holladay Properties’ Nashville office. “A lot of thought and energy has gone into making this a long-term, generational vision and we’re delighted to have the library as civic anchor.”

Smothers credits District 15 Metro Councilmember Jeff Syracuse for being an integral part of facilitating the redevelopment efforts. Syracuse has been an outspoken advocate for investment in Donelson, the district he represents. He worked closely with Holladay Properties throughout the process on the vision for the library and its integration within the Plaza.

“I’m thrilled to see reformative investment in the Donelson area move forward thanks to the Council’s support of the Donelson library branch and Holladay Properties partnership and private investment,” said Syracuse.

Added Syracuse, “We’ve worked hard for quite some time on moving the library forward, and to see it come to fruition is a thrilling moment for our community. Positioning it within the upgraded Donelson Plaza will establish a unique destination where job opportunities, resources, shopping and entertainment coexist. I’m proud to see the work commence immediately.”

Planned improvements for the property currently include:

  •  A new Nashville Public Library Donelson Branch, built at the center of the Plaza;

  • Refurbished building facades and courtyards;

  • Redesigned landscapes, sidewalks and roadways; and

  • Future mixed-use buildings, flanking the entrance to the new library.

 These improvements will occur in multiple phases, with demolition work of unoccupied portions of the Plaza expected to begin this month. Infrastructure work and improvements to the existing retail buildings will begin in 2019, with the groundbreaking of the Nashville Public Library Donelson Branch expected in 2020.

 During construction, Donelson Plaza will continue to operate with all businesses remaining open and active.
